Republican Activist Announces Candidacy for Oakland County Commission

(Waterford, Mich.)- Jim Runestad, a political and community activist, is running for the 6th Oakland County Commission seat. As a small business owner in the area, Runestad understands the challenges facing Oakland County’s economy. “I have decided to run for 6tth District County Commission because I believe strongly that in the difficult financial times our county is facing it is imperative that we are served by a fiscal conservative,” said Runestad. “I intend to be the county’s aggressive budget-hawk who will make sure that the people’s interests are the only interests taken into consideration at budget time.” Runestad, who owns Runestad Financial associates LLC, is a Republican activist who serves as the president for the North Oakland Republican Club (NORC). NORC is one the largest and one of the most widely recognized Republican organizations in Michigan. He also serves as a member of the Oakland County Republican Party’s Executive Committee. Runestad’s endorsements include current 6th district County Commissioner, Eileen Kowell and director of the Michigan Taxpayers’ Alliance, Leon Drolet. A graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education, Runestad is the father of five children with his wife Kathy. He has been active in the Waterford community serving on the citizens’ advisory board for Friend of the Court and as a foster parent. Runestad is running in the August 2008 Primary Election.
