Oakland County Family Defender Prepares To Lead
August 26, 2008

One of Michigan’s long-standing and valiant defenders of the family, Jim Runestad, moved one step closer to making an even larger impact in protecting families. On August 5th, Jim won the Republican primary for the 6th District Oakland County Commission race.
For over 15 years, Jim Runestad has championed the rights of Michigan families on the ground through grass roots organizing and leadership. One of his favorite activities was traveling the state, on his own time and resources, to help concerned citizens form advisory committees to oversee county Friend of the Court offices. Jim realized that the State had done so much damage to the institutions of marriage and family that he decided he had to take a leadership role in the political system to address Michigan’s widespread brokenness in a constructive way.
In 2002, he became President of the North Oakland Republican Club. Under his leadership, the club became a real difference maker in Oakland County, growing in size and stature and giving a larger voice to those who want to make Michigan a place to raise a family, grow a business and invite college kids to return.
Jim is determined to be a family-friendly voice on the Oakland County Commission and will make a refreshing difference for those of us who believe that family provides the fundamental cell structure and backbone of America. For nearly four decades, the systematic, state sponsored dissolution of the family has had a toxic effect across the nation’s communities, but especially in Michigan.
All of the evidence suggests that Jim Runestad will be a lightening rod for leadership and positive change for the family, the economy and for the institutions that can help Oakland County lead Michigan back to being a vital and thriving state.
