Legislature should pass E-verify bill
Thursday, December 10, 2009

Hats off to County Commissioner Jim Runestad, who wrote the guest opinion “State needs to pass E-Verify bill to protect jobs.”
The facts presented by Runestad are undeniable, and the bill HB 4355 and HB 4969 need to come to a fl oor vote this year. Pro-illegal alien groups will shamelessly use scare tactics to kill these bills to further their own hidden agenda with no regard for American workers.
The House leadership determines which bills get to a floor vote. I, in addition to Runestad, encourage citizens to phone House Speaker Andy Dillon and House Majority Floor Leader Kathy Angerer, to request that these bills be brought to the House floor for vote ASAP. Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the nation at over 15 percent and these bills will ensure that citizens and legal residents will not have to compete with illegal aliens for jobs.
Our legislators will then have to look into their souls and take a stand on behalf of the unemployed in Michigan.
Let’s hope that they have not been bought off groups that favor cheap labor over the best interests of American workers.
